Gathered Tote

June 2010 017
I have been in love with the Gathered Clutch I posted about a few weeks ago. I have been wanting to make one, but never making it to Joann's to get zippers. So, when I was brainstorming for my son's end of the year gift for his teacher I had this idea of taking the Gathered Clutch and using the same idea into a handbag. Here was my final result. It took some playing around with and I would probably do some things a little different next time, but I am happy with it.

It just seems to be missing a little something to me though. What about you? Do you think I should add a flower on the band? Or near it? Or leave it just as it is? I cannot decide.

I'm a sucker for flowers. But it's really up to your style. I tend to overdecorate things, lol!

AH! So cute. Seriously, good job. I think it looks perfect as it... but I'm not as "sucker for flowers" like "More than Just Mom"... so do what you think his teacher would prefer!! Whatever you do, I think it's darling. I love the fabrics you used. Man, i wish I could go fabric shopping!

I think a plain colored flower or even a big chunky button would be cute.

CUTE bag, and great idea for a teacher gift. Love the idea of a flower on the outside with a big button in the middle. Also, I think using the dots for the lining on the inside would tie the two fabrics together even more. Always love your fun ideas.

Seriously awesome! I'm in love. And I must know where you got that polka dot fabric. I haven't seen that one. And the aquas. Oh it's so perfect! Oh and I would love a flower.

If you wanted to keep it more simple, I think another narrow band of a plain fabric or the polka dot would be cute. But I also think embellishment is fun. Either way, very cute gift idea!!

I love the colors you used. I think a flower would be perfect. Some bright color would just make it pop. Thanks for sharing your cool bag!

Really cute! I made bags for my kid's teachers' too!
And I have the same trouble with zippers...I swear one day I'm going to take $50 to Joannes and buy as many zippers as I can in all different lengths and colors so I'll be ready for any project that comes my way!!! LOL!
Loving the gathers on your bag!
